Yoga: Get Bent, Get Crazy!

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2020

THE BRIEF ORIGIN!!

Yoga evolved in ancient India, that’s what we all know about the origin of Yoga.
The procedure was derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’.

The practice of Yoga is assumed to have started with the very dawn of civilization. The science of yoga has its origin thousands of years ago, long before the first religions or belief systems were born. In the yogic lore, Shiva is seen as the first yogi or Adiyogi, and the first Guru or Adi Guru.

Several thousand years ago, on the banks of the lake Kantisarovar in the Himalayas, Adiyogi splashed his profound insight into the legendary Saptarishis or “seven sages”. The sages carried this powerful yogic science to different parts of the world, including Asia, the Middle East, Northern Africa and South America. It was in India that the yogic system found its fullest expression.

“Yoga begins with listening. When we listen, we are giving space to what is.” — Richard Freeman

SOME MYTH REGARDING YOGA!!

You have to be flexible to practice yoga, is the biggest myth of all times. Over time, yoga can help you become more flexible—that’s why we call it practice.😄

“Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.” ― B.K.S Iyengar

Yoga is too easy- another myth😅. Yoga isn’t intended to be a workout in the traditional sense, but you can make it as hard or easy as you like.Just-“Don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it“. 😉

“When you listen to yourself, everything comes naturally. It comes from inside, like a kind of will to do something. Try to be sensitive. That is yoga.” ― Petri Räisänen

Real men don’t do yoga😂. Yoga was started by men. Historically, some of the greatest yoga teachers have been men. So, just think before believing it.

“Yoga takes you into the present moment. The only place where life exists.“

The practice of yoga is restricted to Hatha Yoga and postures. Fundamentally, hatha yoga is an introductory procedure so that the body can maintain higher levels of energy. The process starts with the body, then the breath, the mind, and the inner self.

Yoga is not just the exercise system for health and fitness, Yoga is about harmonizing oneself with the universe.

Yoga does not attach to any particular religion, belief system or community; it has always been approached as a technology for inner wellbeing.

“Yoga is a light, which once lit will never dim. The better your practice, the brighter your flame.” — B.K.S. Iyengar

GIFTS OF YOGA!!

“The yoga pose you avoid the most you need the most.”

Enhances bone health!

According to a study by California State University, Los Angeles, practising yoga increases bone density in the vertebrae. They help strengthen the bones, especially the bones in your arms which are vulnerable to osteoporotic fractures.

Boosts Immunity!

Yoga is one way you can naturally uplift your vitality without having to step out of the comfort of your home during this lockdown. If practised properly, yoga can recharge your body, get rid of the toxins, negative energy and keep your vital organs functioning well.

“We all wish for world peace, but world peace will never be achieved unless we first establish peace within our own minds.” ― Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Prevents cartilage and joint breakout!

When you do yoga, the joints go through their full range of motion. Joint cartilage receives fresh nutrients only when its fluid is squeezed out and a new supply can be soaked up. Without proper sustenance, neglected areas of the cartilage can eventually wear out, exposing the underlying bone.

Makes body flexible!

Flexibility is improved through stretching and stretching feels good. When you stretch, you relieve stress by releasing tension. Improved flexibility is an enormous benefit: it promotes the range of motion and joint health that help prevent back pain, repetitive-use damage, and sports injuries.

“True meditation is about being fully present with everything that is including discomfort and challenges. It is not an escape from life.” ― Craig Hamilton

Improves posture!

Inappropriate posture can lead to back, neck and other muscle and joint difficulties. When you decline, your body compensates it by unrolling the normal inward curves in your neck and lower back. This results in pain and degenerative arthritis of the spine. The asanas in yoga help you retain these optimal curves, thereby enhancing posture. Hence, it works on all ages!

Helps you relieve tension!

When you are stressed, tension is stored in the body making you feel tight and often causing pain. The stretching of yoga releases tension from problem areas, including the hips and shoulders. Relief of low back pain is another common benefit.

Helps to fight with heart diseases!

Several studies suggest yoga can help reduce known heart disease risk factors, like high blood pressure among those who are hypertensive.
“Yoga increases blood flow and gets oxygen to the periphery of the body and relaxes blood vessels, which is good in heart failure. It eases the workload on the heart,” Kogon says.

”Yoga is the dance of every cell with the music of every breath that creates inner serenity and harmony.”

So, this International Yoga Day let’s give a small curve to our daily lifestyle and obtain this healthy procedure of being Fit and Flexible✌. I have always been a Cardio girl, but the truth is it’s always a momentary solution of weight loss.  Yoga works on multiple aspects of the body-be it fat burning, relaxing, quieting the mind, or getting your heart rate up. I can feel the change!☺

Stay healthy, stay fit!
